Adidas Stan Smith - Size 8.5 (1980s)
what we know today as the stan smith was designed back in 1963 by the founder of adidas's son, horst dassler, as the company's first tennis shoe. it was later named the "robert haillet" in 1965 after an penning an endorsement deal with the french tennis professional. following haillet's retirement less than a decade later, the brand went searching for a new endorsee: enter stan smith, who would place first in two major tennis singles championships in 1971 & 1972. the rest is history, with a speculated 40 million pairs of adi stans sold as of 2005 & production still going strong to date.
while there is absolutely no shortage of green-tab stans on the market, surviving USA-made examples from the 80s are quite rare to come by & greatly surpass the material quality of those manufactured today.
NOTE: comes with a cool old gold-tone rose brooch that i found in a bush + a 1984 los angeles olympic enamel pin - very cool!
